Phosphorus moves little in soil. At high pH and in lime, and at low pH, availability can fall because it becomes bound. Management is not raising the rate without a soil analysis. Bound phosphorus is not read as a surplus.
The point of banding
Banding places phosphorus in the narrow zone where roots are, instead of across the whole field. It does not erase binding; it changes placement.
Thinking beyond one season
Phosphorus is followed as a stock that accumulates in the soil, not only as one season’s rate.
