Plant Nutrition in Calcareous Soils: How High pH Changes Nutrient Availability

Why calcareous soil and high pH are not the same measurement, and how high pH changes iron, zinc and phosphorus availability.

Lime is the carbonate material in the soil; pH is the reaction, and they are not the same measurement. High pH changes the availability of iron, zinc and phosphorus. Feeding is not tied to acidifying or to a blind micronutrient before that change is measured.

When a foliar application is considered

A foliar application is considered when the root cannot take up an element whose availability has fallen in the soil. It does not replace the soil measurement.
